With the beginning of the new year always comes the New Year’s resolution. It has been several years since I’ve made a resolution. This year at my family’s New Year’s Eve celebration, my nephew’s wife, Lexie (my niece) explained about how she chose a word for the year rather than a resolution. This was my first time hearing about the “word of the year”, so I was interested in what Lexie was talking about. As she elaborated more about the “word of the year” concept, I became intrigued. As she shared that her choice of word for 2020 was “serve”, I was more than intrigued. I was extremely impressed with her mindfulness of word choice.
Lexie’s word choice and explanation inspired me to choose a word for 2020. Throughout the day, I have considered what my word would be. Several words made my list
Then it hit me after receiving a text from my sister-in-law, Karen. She wrote a beautiful reflection of her 2019 that motivated me to reflect on my previous year. This reflection prompted my reflecting not on just the past year, but really the past decade. After considering all that I’ve experienced, witnessed and overcame in my life the past 10 years, I finally decided my year of 2020 would be “Trust”.
While God has blessed me beyond what I can explain or even imagine, I”ve not trusted in Him as I should. I caused myself more stress and anxiety unnecessarily because I chose to worry rather than trust in Him. So as I approach the blessing of another new year, I want to focus my heart on trusting God and His will for my life. When I am burdened with the stress of this life, I hope to be more mindful to trust in God rather than focus on the stresses.
So for the year, I plan to focus my heart on trusting in the Lord. Along with my word of the year, I’ve chosen a bible verse to reflect on for 2020 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
As you begin your new year, consider choosing a word for your year and a verse to meditate on. Comment and let me know what your word and verse of 2020 will be.
Until next time,
As I end this post, I want to express my thanks for all the support and encouragement that I have received with my blogging. May God bless you all in 2020 and I hope that you continue to read My Nichols Worth.
