30 Days of Thanks – Day 8

In January 2019 we celebrated the marriage of my daughter, Cecily, to her husband, Parker. When she married, my husband and I were very happy with her choice in Parker and we were excited for the two of them to begin their life together. I can still remember watching them leave the church house and get into the truck. Seeing how happy she was made my heart overflow with joy. Then the vehicle drove away. Immediately I felt a shot of hurt in my heart like no pain I’d experienced. I didn’t understand how I could experience feeling such immense happiness and devastating pain at the same time. She was now gone and my life was immediately changed. At that moment, I wondered if I would get over that pain.

Well, now 11 months later, I’m over the pain and settled into a new chapter of life – life with married kid. While I may not see or talk to Cecily daily, when she’s around it feels no different than when she lived here. We fall back into that familiar rhythm we have with each other.

When Parker’s gone for an evening, many times Cecily will come over to the house. I’m always happy when she joins us for the evening. Last night, I enjoyed her company for a few hours and she helped me with my blog. She’s an artist by trade, so quite often she helps me with my blog pictures. Actually, she designed logos for both my blogs. I’m so appreciative and fascinated with her talents. More importantly, I’m touched and pleased with her willingness to use her talents to glorify God. She uses her gift of artistry to not only to earn a paycheck, but she also uses them to serve others. As her mother, this makes me very happy to see my daughter shine her light for the Lord.

I could rattle on about my daughter and all her talents, gifts, beauty, and intelligence. But I won’t, because I don’t have enough words to describe all that she does and who she is. I will say that she is one of the best blessings I’ve ever received. Truly I can’t quite fathom why God would bless me with such an incredible person to be a mom to. He knew I needed her way more than she could ever need me. She makes me a better person. I am eternally grateful that God gave me Cecily. So today I give thanks for the precious blessing, I have the privilege to call my daughter, Cecily.

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.” Psalms 127:3-5

Until next time
